279895 2004-10-10 19:28:00 I have a Leadtek WinFast graphics card. Currently I am useing nVidia drivers 6.1.7.7. This seems to give me best results, but I am not happy with it. I have tried the latest Leadtek and Nvidia drivers. They are worse.
The problem is that I can not get a good white background. My white page is a dirty grey. The print is a dark grey. Colours seem OK. I have tried adjusting contrast and brightness on both the card and on the monitor but I'm not happy with it
The deteriation seems to have started about the same time as I installed SP2.
I know the GE Force 5200 is only a mid range card but it used to be OK.
Any ideas about improving it?
If I get a new card, What sort? I'm not into playing games. I just want sharp black and white.
Comp is a P4 3.0 in a Gigabite GA P8ipe 1000 m/b.

279896 2004-10-10 19:35:00 The nVidia FX series was notorious for their poor 2D quality and overall image quality in general, without actually seeing the problem its pretty hard to say whether or not its normal. Matrox are the kings of 2D, offering the sharpest image and most accurate colours, ATi also have superior 2D to nVidia. Pete O'Neil (250)
279897 2004-10-10 19:50:00 Yes I used to have a Matrox and it was very good. But is 32mb of memory still enough. I'm looking at a Millenium G550, 32MB DDR, 4XAGP, Dual Head, OEM .

279898 2004-10-10 19:54:00 And will a 4 x AGP card work OK in an 8x AGP? JJJJJ (528)
279899 2004-10-10 20:35:00 Its probably a lil hasty to be replacing the video card straight away, you said the problems started after installing SP2? Have you tryed uninstalling SP2 to see if the problem goes away?

Otherwise unless you play alot of modern games 32mb should be fine.

279900 2004-10-10 20:35:00 You know... it could be that the monitor isn't in great condition, etc... what is it and what is its age?

To be honest, I'd consider trying the card in another machine, or at least hooked up to another monitor to rule out the possibility of the card or XP SP2 causing this issue.

279903 2004-10-11 02:32:00 Try going into your monitor's controls and check under colour management what it's set to - you should see probably 3 options, and 6500K would be the right one Greg S (201)
279904 2004-10-11 02:35:00 6500K looks like sh*t on mine.
9300K doesnt...
