279853 2004-10-10 11:44:00 I had a major crash on a hard drive, it would not boot, and the Bios would not accept it. If I disabled the drive it would boot on a floppy but then I couldn't work on the drive because it was disabled.
Knoppix CD booted up and could see the drive. The original 4 partitions had multiplied to 146 partitions - what a mess!! Knoppix enabled me to copy my data files onto floppies, & as I had images of the system that was all I needed.
Booted up with "Maxtor Power Max" and did a low format which took 8 hours.
After this it formatted & reinstalled without a problem.
Without Knoppix I would have lost my data files.

279854 2004-10-10 12:33:00 For this reason alone every user should have acess to a free copy of Knoppix.

I posted a link to a step by step article detailing this process (Somewhere back there). it can also be found on the Knoppix discussion site.

There are many other options, but for the GUI user, Knoppix takes a lot of beating.
