279828 2004-10-10 08:52:00 HI all

My Cd writer ( external ) USB2 doesnt seem to be working on my computer it can read fine but when i try and burn a disk it does like 20% and then just sits there - i left it for ages and nothing happened. It is USB 2 compatible and my new computer has this ( motherboard = Gigabyte GA-7n400 pro2 ). The werid thing is that it works on my laptop which has usb 1. I have tried a variety of cd buring apps and lowering the write speed but the same thing always happens

Any Idea ?

Thanks

279830 2004-10-10 11:14:00 Are you using a USB 2 cable?

279831 2004-10-10 19:13:00 i would think so but i don't know - does it change things. Even if the cable is not USB 2 shouldn't work at USB 1 ApeNz (4220)
279832 2004-10-10 19:18:00 Well if it isnt a USB 2 cable it wouldnt be running as fast as it should be.

It DOES make a diff whether ur using a USB 2 or 1.1 cable.

279833 2004-10-10 19:21:00 So what you are saying is that because the cable is at 1.1 that means that it wont work ApeNz (4220)

Properly.

Does it have a supplementary power source?

279835 2004-10-10 19:29:00 it has a external power pack which plugs into it ApeNz (4220)
279836 2004-10-10 19:37:00 No it will still work. But it will AFFECT the speed if the cable is 1.1 (12mbps), not USB 2 (480 mbps), since USB 2 is WAY faster than 1.1.

Thats a big difference in speed.
