| 280973 | 2004-10-14 03:40:00 | I have just reformatted an HDD, installed Win 98SE, and now find that I have a problem with the video. I can now get only 480 X 640 and 16 colours - there are no more options listed in 'settings'. There do not seem to be anymore drivers on the Windows CD. The video is listed in device manager as "Standard PCI graphics adaptor" and windows seems to have picked up the default driver, which is clearly not adequate. I don't know the make of the video card, but wonder if there might be a generic driver which would solve the problem. If anyone can advise and tell me whence I might be able to download the requisite driver, I would be grateful. |

| 280975 | 2004-10-14 03:44:00 | Well its better if u try and find out what the brand/model of the videocard is. Then u can go to the makers site and get the drivers for it. Or delete the entry in device manager for it, and try windowsupdate. That might detect it, and let u install a decent driver for it. If it brings up a Nvidia based driver, it'll be better to go to nvidia.com and download that driver. |

| 280976 | 2004-10-14 04:10:00 | Further info please, like are we talking laptop or desktop or tower. Is it a "name brand" like HP, compaq etc.. If a name brand or laptop, are there model numbers marked somewhere on them. Worth a try is run Belarc Advisor (www.belarc.com)to see if it can tell you what you have in the way of video card. |

| 280977 | 2004-10-14 06:53:00 | Thanks for the responses. Pheonix: The comp is an antique which a friend bought second hand about five years ago. Her children had pretty well filled it with music and games, then finally she picked up a dialer which wracked up a phone bill (which telecom waived). She asked my advice and in light of the dialer and the comps years of service, I suggested reformatting and reinstalling software. All went well except for the screen resolution. The comp is a desktop and runs a Compaq 151FS monitor. The only brand name "Ex-Lucent" which is on a green plastic case that encloses the entire box. Belarc reports that it's a First International Computer product with a 300Mhz AMD K6-2/3DNow and a 8.61Mhz HDD. It also reports a Standard PCI graphics adaptor (VGA), but there is no metion of the make of the video card. I wonder if this is of any help...? |

| 280979 | 2004-10-14 07:11:00 | You could try this driver. This is from the First International Computer site so it says www.fic.com.tw It says on this site the videocard is ATI based. You could either download the driver or send an email, just to make sure. |
