:_|:_|:_|:_|:_|:_| *wipes tears* meh, it would have been nice to see a standard 4GHz but there are few p4's that have like 5 or 6ghz overclocked of course........

281418 2004-10-16 04:52:00 You can tell he's an Intel fanboy with a name like Prescott. I heard Intel are selling Prescotts to Eskimos to keep them warm, pssh who needs big fluffy jackets when you can keep your igloo warm and crunch seti at the same time. I also heard that the super rich Eskimo's with several igloos are using ghetto ducting mods to keep the whole family warm.

Intel will probably retain its 80% market share despite how good the AMD product is.
You will pay accordingly for the best of the best (AMD) and I can't see them not taking advantage of the situation and this could be a good thing for intel users who might see intel become more aggressive in their pricing structure as AMD had to do to survive.

Bad news for intel but not for joe public :-)

The company's care as they can say they are the fastest or the best otherwise AMD would not have got into that stupid thing of putting a + on the end of their chips saying this is what the speed would be comparatively speaking. What a load of bollucks.

You will find that the home user market is where they make their money and that even now there are many PC's being sold that do not use top of the line CPU's because of price and because they do not need that speed.

They make them to make money. Simple. Why else would they make them for.

Exactly. They will buy what they what to and that will not always be the fastest CPU so the saying still stands. Me. I brout a 3.2 Ghz for one of my machines but one of my others has a P3 1Ghz and it is fine for the job it is doing. Again I say who cares!

> "who cares"....pffft. jerks.

Ohhhh. Must have hit a soft spot with someone to get into name calling now. Better go read the rules.

281422 2004-10-16 05:48:00 Oh god we've been here done this before, crack open the history books and go back to a time of knights of the round table and damsels in distress and a time when all geeks were rule by the mighty P3 or Athlon. The P3 was on the ropes as Intel struggles to get it past 800MHz, mean while AMD was streaking ahead breaking the magical 1GHz milestone. It was a time of great joy for all AMD fanboys and those commonly refered to as cheap, but it was also a time of great dispear for all those Intel fanboys. Then the might Intel opened a can of whoopass also know as the P4 "oh crap we're getting our ass's kicked by AMD lets just double the length of the pipeline and scale the *****". One day intels on top one day AMD's on top, i'll bet my house that Intel have an ace up their sleeve and dont count the good ole boys at AMD out either.

me goes off to play with his VIA C3, pssh AMD and Intel fanboys cant live with em cant live without them

281424 2004-10-16 06:55:00 You've got to admire the marketting though Pete. The longer pipeline made the Pentium 4 slower in reality, but everyone else who knew SFA about computers were like "more Ghz!!!111". ;) alphazulusixeightniner (185)
281425 2004-10-16 07:12:00 who released the 1st 1GHz CPU? AMD
who released the 1st "Useable" 64 bit CPU? AMD

If it wasn't for AMD & the competion it gives, else, Intel may only be up to PIII 500 Mhz now??? ?:|

BTW "Useable" - i meant run on standard 32 Bit software etc etc

Pretty sure it was the Apple G5, then came the Itaniums which are still "useable" in servers.
