2004-10-15 19:01:00 | Thanks a lot guys for the information and links so will follow this all up. Also got DSE head office to send some stuff regarding their software so will hear back on Monday about that. I have a 20 Gb bandwidth limit so shouldn't blow that in a hurry. Cheers.

2004-10-15 19:39:00 | You'd be surprised..... ;-) I set Go 1984 to ftp files to my server. It had about 5 gigs free at the time. It filled this in about 36 hours because I forgot to stop Go1984 while I was in my bedroom, and it took photo after photo of me :-/ http://motion.sf.net may be worth a look in too. Chill.

2004-10-16 01:21:00 | My thoughts would be one of these cards (www.trademe.co.nz) and use VNC to view it. Also, if using a dynamic IP, I believe you could utilise dynamic DNS service such as no-ip.com (http://www.no-ip.com/) | Pheonix (280) | |
2004-10-17 19:46:00 | I have installed a few security camera systems but these are commercial products, not designed for the home. I have no experience in the DSE type products but am sure they can do the job, even though I would think picture quality would be less.?? I do know that it is best to view via the net by a web server and not using Remote Desktop or other types of remote software. All systems I install are accessible via a built in web server and picture quality and speed is far superior to access via Remote control. Also 4 cameras at a low resolution of 320 by 320 @ 4 frames per second can go through a few Mb while viewing so be careful of your Mb usage. If on dialup you will be disappointed. | Berryb (654) | |
2004-10-17 20:34:00 | Hi Berryb, thanks for the advice - yes I was wondering about bandwidth usage using remote access (I have Remote-Access PC 4.3.4) and viewing the cams simultaneously. I intend to have the stream password protected if possible to cut down on unauthorised viewing (usage), so will see what options the software allows once it's installed. I'm trying out 'Go1984', 'WebcamXP', 'Webcam32', and the 'Securavision Alert' software from DSE to see the options available, such as email alerts, password protection, motion detect, frame rates, etc. Even though the setup will be on a DSL line the connection occasionally gets disconnected, so I'll be running 'IP Mailer' to send out the new IP by email so I can reconnect to the cams. Cheers :-)
