282142 2004-10-18 00:22:00 Hi, my new server (Cel 1.2Ghz) has two sd-ram slots.

I can either put in

1) 1x 256MB PC133 + 1x 128MB PC133 -> 384MB PC133
2) 1x 256MB PC133 + 1x 256MB PC100 -> 512MB PC100

Which option would be best?

If it helps, FSB = 100Mhz

And the operating system is Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Normally (with 256MB PC100 on a PIII 450, its old configuration) it 'uses' about 390MB, some of which is paged of course.

Cheers

282143 2004-10-18 00:27:00 Fire in the 512MB, 25% more RAM for any PC let alone a server is better than marginally faster RAM. The PC133 RAM will be running at 100 anyway due to the motherboards FSB.

282144 2004-10-18 00:28:00 unless you are over clocking then the 133 ram wont be any batter than the 100

I would go for the 512Mb setup.

282145 2004-10-18 00:35:00 I'll go for the 512. Can always easily change later. A 1.2GHZ Cel will certainly be a hell of a lot better than a PIII 450. With the current chip, stats take like 45 secs to build :o.

Cheers for the advice
