282195 2004-10-17 21:53:00 I have this dsl-500 d-link what is known as a adsl router at home but when i look at it online the picture is a lot different to my adsl model.
I have listed here at trademe www.trademe.co.nz
Looking at the modem it only has one adsl hole and one ethernet hole. The modem says on top its an adsl router.Shouldn't a adsl router have more than one adsl hole?

You forgot to end the formatting with [/url].

Also when you type and post a very long url without the [url formatting start and ending, extra spaces will be inserted. That's a quirk of PF1.

Now i forget what your question was, er, adsl hole?

Well an adsl router will have either USB or ethernet connections or both.

282199 2004-10-17 22:23:00 It has an ethernet connection. One ethernet connection and one Adsl connection.Shouldn't a router has more than one connection? yingxuan (3330)
282200 2004-10-17 22:26:00 I think the D-Link has an just an ethernet port to connect to a computer or a hub, and a modular port to connect to the phone line. The D-link website doesnt mention USB for the DSL500.

In the TradeMe picture, the white cable looks like a USB cable, but it isnt very clear what it is.

282201 2004-10-17 22:29:00 I just missed your last post.

Some routers have multiple ethernet ports built in, others dont.

My Dynalink just has one Ethernet connection and one USB connection, plust the ADSL port to the phone line

282202 2004-10-17 22:32:00 Isn't the purpose of a router is to share same bandwith with one or more computer? So a router should have more than one connection isn't that correct? yingxuan (3330)
282203 2004-10-17 22:33:00 The grey cable displayed in the picture fits directly in the ethernet connection hole. The black cable is the telephone line yingxuan (3330)
282204 2004-10-17 22:37:00 I suppose being a bit pedantic you could say that, that is, a router should route, and that implies routing to more than one place.

However many routers just have one ethernet port outlet, and if you have more than one computer, then a hub or preferably a switch is used to join the several computers to the router.
