| 282031 | 2004-10-17 17:29:00 | My 12yo son sits on MSN and says nothing to his friends, for hours, with text style spelling at best, and achieves nothing. The comments scroll up the screen and disappear into oblivion. Press F1 is a self-help forum, which has grown to be a place where people could add a bit of humour and share some experiences. Lately, it has become an online ***** fest. It's not a lot of fun for a lot of people, and it really detracts from the helpful purpose of the forum. Can we just calm down a bit, and start being nice to each other? robo. |

Either remove them or ban them from posting for a month or two. You are quite right to post a reminder. Most all PF1ers are very helpful, cooperative, and civil, but a few ruin the atmosphere. PF1 is one of the best forums around, of any topic. Thanks to Robo and others for their positive input. | Steve_L (763) | ||

Without giving away any trade secrets it is pretty obvious that people can create multiple personalities and disabling or banning is not particularly effective. We don't like banning people, and there are many that have been warned regularly. If people stopped taking things so seriously (both in being offensive and offended) then things would be a lot more relaxed. robo. |

| 282037 | 2004-10-17 20:19:00 | Some of you need a few home truths. This is a self help forum. The only way it can work is with good will. It is that simple. Destroy the goodwill and you destroy the forum. There are a whole bunch of you - some who've been banned before, some who stay just millimetres away from a ban - who really need to think about that. If you ever posted helpful advice then presumably you did that because you wanted to help someone with a problem. So if you did that, why would you want to help ruin the forum? But that is exactly what a small but significant number of you have been doing now for some time. I've signed up for forums that have long-winded rules and regulations. Forums that FORCE you to submit a valid email before you can post. Even forums that go to the length of not accepting free email account addresses. We've never done any of that. We never had to because our users tended to be mature, helpful types. Right now that isn't the case. What we have is a few simple rules of which the baseline is to "keep it friendly". I don't expect people to not argue now and then. But I do expect people to attempt to live up to the spirit of that rule. Sarcasm? Yeah, like the odd argument, sarcasm will happen. But when it becomes the default mode of response for someone, as it did for WTF, then I get annoyed. As I do when I politely ask someone to cut it out, several times, and they don't. Those of you amusing yourselves with threads like "bring back WTF" might like to stop and ponder just how idiotic your behaviour is in light of this. Bottomline, if none of this makes sense to some of you is this: This isn't your forum, and you don't make the rules. If you cannot abide by the spirit of our rules then don't post here. |

| 282039 | 2004-10-17 20:34:00 | hmmm.... In the words of the great Dave Mustaine What do you mean i ain't kind? Maybe im just not your kind? Anyhow, this forum has always had a flashpoint, when i first arrived there ws a massive spat going on and some users who i get the impression were highly regarded all left in a tizz... Its not like the world was blissful and perfect untill the likes of Powa,WTF and myself made ourselves known..... |

I didn't say I was asking for perfection Metla. And I'm not concerned with the world, just this forum. I'm sorry, but I just don't except that as a logical defence for why we should all tolerate poor behaviour. |
