281945 2004-10-17 07:19:00 Hi all,
I am trying to fix a computer for a friend of mine, and have successfully removed the 27 different viruses, hundreds of spyware components and a lot of other rubbish..but still have one problem.
Everytime the computer loads up a dailup connection box popsup still. I thought it was from the spyware, but that is gone and the connection box isn't.
I now believe it's something to do with Norton system works (2003) as i deny the connection about 10 times and then norton loads up - after all other programs have at startup. I have no idea WHY it wants to connect to the internet, and after much searching (I never use norton because i hate it) and changing of MANY options about live update and such I have still not stopped the box. It also requests a connection when i doubleclick to start system works on the desktop, so I'm almost certain it is to blame.
He doesn't want this annoying connection box, and I am going insane not being able to remove it. A search of this forum returned nothing, so I turn to you all

Please help me, thank you a *lot*.

281947 2004-10-17 07:29:00 Try this.
In Internet Explorer select TOOLS- INTERNET OPTIONS-ADVANCED-Scroll to SECURITY- UNCHECK - “ check for publisher’s revocation certificate”

281949 2004-10-18 05:25:00 goto start/run type in msconfig. Tell us whats in there under startup. I think 98 has this. Havent used it for a while! Spacemannz (808)
281950 2004-10-18 05:53:00 would suggest running pandas online activescan on the pc and another one or two spyware programs as no one program will pick up all viruses or spyware.

281951 2004-10-18 05:55:00 Are you sure all the spyware is gone, some of it can be extemely stubborn.
I haven't found an app yet that finds & gets rid of everything.
I use 7 different programs to clean machines.
Also download & run hijackthis & copy & post the log it generates & we'll tell you which entries to delete
