| 282053 | 2004-10-18 00:20:00 | I'm one of those people who received the sharp end of someone's sarcasm on this forum and I haven't posted since then . Sure, I don't know much when it comes to computers, but I believe that if you want to learn you have to try, and ask when things turn to crap (which is why I check out PF1) . I've also tried to help others when I've known what I was talking about (not often as I'm first to admit I don't know much) and they have done the same for me . When it comes to certain people replying with unhelpful posts, unkind comments and highjacking threads all I can say is that I live in the real world . . . I deal with a lot of people who are arrogant, self centred and seeking attention just to pander to their own egos . I don't stand for it in the real world . . . so why should I put up with it here? To put that into perspective, I know that one of those people mentioned above has a business selling computer parts . . . if he had that attitude dealing with me as a client he wouldn't get my business, or the business of anyone I know . I like the real world much better than here :-) |

| 282055 | 2004-10-18 00:28:00 | Well Bruce, you have my respect. It can be a thankless job - so, well done. It seems to me that the nasty posts are a small proportion. I tend to ignore such posts. However if you say that people are being put off, then you must have a reason to believe that. Certainly no-one would want members to feel nervous about asking a question or joining a thread. Perhaps we all need to be community policemen on this issue. Not necessarily to bother moderators, but to simply remind people to keep it friendly when tempers rise. The power of mass disapproval can work. As to those who ignore - then send them to Coventry as Drb suggests. |

| 282056 | 2004-10-18 00:30:00 | :( One point i have is . . . . that often it is not just one person at fault, and the others respond and cause more anti, and they make fun of all others attempting to help the actual question, they also respond in unkind aspects for the people telling them to please leave the thread . I had a thread deleted and locked, i am unable to see this for the first part of it was info i wanted, have no idea what the rest of it said or did, This has not helped my initial query, i am no further ahead and people had a ball at my espense it seems . I ask often for people to cease the stupid, arguing, and then leave the thread and dont go back usually, this is not a hard thing to do, why cant others? I have learnt from the past, i have been a retaliator myself . it helps no one . Sorry to both Bruce and robo, and others , we dont need this . Will they learn? a slap on the hand, and they be back at it again next time they here? and it not just one particular person, the people who reply are just as bad or worse in my thinking, it gets out of hand so fast, nobody is willing to back down and walk away . Ill admit i have had plenty of help from the suposed bad person's in this forum, but there are others just as guilty who do the mud slinging and tantrum throwing, remember to practice what you preach guys, if you cant take it dont give it or start it . apologies from me too . beetle |

I hope other PF1ers take the same action and then Metla can just alk to himself in an empty forum. |

More often though, a lot of people post without bothering to Google, or read the FAQs or search the forum. Look at how many XP SP2 threads were barfed up when that came around. Why is there a sticky to tell people to try some other resources first if it isn't an ongoing problem |
