282173 2004-10-20 01:58:00 Not to mention "Marx and Sparks" for our English bretheren.

Welcome back Tom. Don't say you were banned too??? ;)

282174 2004-10-20 05:19:00 ... I still remember some of the poems in books called
> "When We We're Very Young" & "Now We are Six."... >

The more it snows (tiddely-pom)
The more it goes (tiddely-pom)
The more it goes (tiddely-pom)
On snowing
And noboy knows (tiddely-pom)
How cold my toes (tiddely-pom)
How cold my toes (tiddely-pom)
Are growing

Sorry - couldn't resist :)

"Along came the war, and then we were four."
I was rather puzzled to find that "the war" could apparently make people younger, however, my grandfather put me straight.

282176 2004-10-20 08:55:00 John had great big waterproof boots on.
John had a great big waterproof hat.
John had a great big waterproof mackintosh.
"And that," said John," is THAT."

The accompanying picture was perfect for Central Otago kids decked out for winter.

This was chanted as you stomped through icy puddles (It makes a great chant - short & easy to remember) and there was always an extra-satisfying STOMP or JUMP or PLOP or CRACK as you emphasised the last word.

282177 2004-10-20 10:39:00 Oh dear - seems you had hard water Laura, it's a long time since I saw that stuff occuring naturally

>didn't a couple of them die of malnutrition during this spell?
Seriously bad spelling, obviously.
And what about High Marx, much sought after at the end of year?

And now that you're moving to the Winterless North (or do I remember that post wrongly?) I guess you never will see proper crunchy icy hard water again
(Unless you come down to us ice-crunchers some winter, that is)
Otherwise, you have my sympathy.
Permanent sunshine & even temperatures can be so boring.
Living dangerously (even if it's only snow in your own backyard) has much more variety.

282179 2004-10-22 21:11:00 Not quite back yet 007,has there been some banning going on? Young Tom (5503)
282180 2004-10-22 21:46:00 Oh Laura,

Winterless North? Daylight saving here has meant saving it from shining on us.
You have adventurous weather? Ha, yours is so monotonous, sometimes the same weather for hours, not like here. Fifteen weather patterns before breakfast, and three more during.
And I will stick with my early formed theory that water should be at room temperature unless it is used in the hard form to make the Whisky look like a bigger delivery. Snow and ice are fine in their place; postcards etc.
We don't need blizzards and the like, we have traffic jams, which at least have the merit of ensuring that the rush hour is a thing of the past. (Some mornings, all the present, and a dollop of the future as well.)
The new Mayor is putting the kaibosh on the eastern road boondoggle, presumably so he can set up roadside stalls to sell breakfast to the semi-parked people as they commute. Even if you have to eat in the car, it will be pleasant to have time for a leisurely breakfast.

Yes Tom, but its not something we like to talk about. At least not while Bruce is around ;)

But you'll notice the ebullient WTF's succinct posts are no more, alas.

Hows the house coming along?

282182 2004-10-23 21:20:00 He does seem somewhat afflicted by a penchant for headmastership.

Carpet booked in for Nov4th.
All the last minute stuff, even I find somewhat of a strain.I am described as super layed back, more I think due to lethargy than any desire to be so.
