| 281966 | 2004-10-20 04:32:00 | Umm the onboard realtek sound shouldnt have support of EAX, EAX is a proprietry technology owned by creative. | Pete O'Neil (250) | ||

You won't get much of a performance boost if anything with a cheaper $20 sound card and there wouldn't be much point either because the onboard sound would probably match it sound quality wise. The newer Audigy 2s like the ZS etc are an improvement on the older ones because the older ones have a few bugs etc which have been fixed with newer versions. Of course if you don't have some nice speakers or headphones to pair the new sound card up with, it's probably not worth it. |

Environmental Audio Extensions ( EAX ) is a fancy way of describing special sound effects like Stone Chamber, Underwater etc... Realtek call it Environmental effects, but it is the same thing as EAX. |

I do believe it is specific instuctions coded only for Creative cards, adding a liitle reverb and some frequency adjustment across the board and calling it padded cell or hallway is not even in the same ball park let alone just the samething. |

Depends on what it is,a 6 channel audio excell can be had for 25 odd dollars.a soundblaster live 5.1 can be found for 50 odd. No need to touch anything in DSE for $80,especially if they have convenintly relabbeled it. |
