281981 2004-10-17 10:58:00 Hi,
Anyone shipped any electronics goods (for personal use) from the US to New Zealand?
If yes can you give me advice on import fees, duty, Customs or taxes that you may be charged when doing this?
Thanks

you buying/ordering from here to import?

281983 2004-10-17 18:03:00 I import goods for both business and personal use, and sometimes I import multiples of items, other times single units.

I have never met up with "import duties" as such, just GST
The end use does not seem to matter. Rightly or wrongly, in my experience it is the price that seems to trigger GST. Even repairs returning from overseas get levied GST on the repair cost.

I think the break-point on an individual shipment is around $NZ700 but I'd take informed advice on that. However, once the value is exceeded you pay GST on the whole figure, not just the excess.

If in doubt, just phone and ask.

Cheers

So if I ordered a digital camera with accessories from an American vendor, I'll just have to pay GST for it?

281985 2004-10-17 20:31:00 yes, most likely, but in my experience the shipping and insurance charges levied by the seller make buying from the states most unattractive theother1 (3573)
