One possible common thread with nasty experiences would seem to be associated with having Symantec/Norton products installed, though I expect many would dispute that. I'd suggest a clean install of XP, followed immediately by installing SP2, your other software, and then maybe installing the Norton stuff. Personally I think the freeware AVG and Kerio firewall would most likely give you the safeguards you need. I just dont trust Norton anymore, but that's my personal opinion. On my own setup I find the SP2 firewall and Kerio co-exist together quite happily, and together with AVG, I've never had any problems. |

| 281602 | 2004-10-16 08:35:00 | I've been running AVG (free version) & Kerio (free version) on a clean slipstreamed XP SP2 install for weeks with no problems. It's actually faster than it was pre SP2 I do have the SP2 security centre disabled as well |

| 281605 | 2004-10-16 09:10:00 | Could it be the fact that you're running only 256mb of RAM with a bloated OS such as SP2? | alphazulusixeightniner (185) | ||
| 281606 | 2004-10-16 18:24:00 | I have now installed SP 2 twice. After the first install my hard disk died. Purely co-incidental I hope !!! On the first occasion I installed it on top of all existing files. No problem at all. Except it didn't positively recognise NAV 2003. No speed problems though. Everything worked as adverised. Second install. Windows, SP 2, NAV 2005, then the rest. No problems,perhaps slightly faster. I love it. My comp. P4 3.0 1024 megs ram. Jack |
