282531 2004-10-19 01:27:00 My Nortons anti virus has run out. As I am fully retired now I do have to watch the pennies and don't really use the internet as much as many people. So I should use freeware antivirus programs. Blowed if I can remember who was supplying them. Easy enough to try Google but I thought I would ask PCWorld F1 first for recomendations. Thomas01 (317)
282532 2004-10-19 01:38:00 AVG from www.grisoft.com

New free version coming out at the end of this month or November - I can't remember when.

282533 2004-10-19 01:54:00 I'd go with AVG as well
It's also advised to completely uninstall Nortons before installing a another Antivirus program.

282534 2004-10-19 02:02:00 AVG is recommended, but depending on your OS you may need a firewall as well - especially if using XP.
Bye

282538 2004-10-20 02:33:00 avg..............antivirus
zonealarm....firewall
adaware.......removes adware
spybot..........removes spyware
opera...........a browser less vulnerable than ie

No problems of any significance in four years.

Not bragging, just a recommendation. :D

282539 2004-10-21 01:55:00 To those who gave me advice - many thanks. AVG certainly looks the way to go so I deleted my Nortons. Downloaded and installed AVG (quite a sophisticated operation in itself), and rebooted. Amazing it found viruses on boot up that Nortons had missed and then another 6 To say I am pleased is putting it mildly. Not pleased at having viruses but now having a program that seems to keep its users very happy.
Once again
Thanks
Tom
