| 282513 | 2004-10-18 23:18:00 | I never touched a dsl router modem before so i lend it to my friend to test it out. My friend plugged the ethernet in but the ethernet light wouldn't light up and the computer wouldn't recognize it. Actually it flashed once then nothing happened. The power light does come on and the adsl light does light up also but the ethernet light doesnt show. Also does it need to be plugged into a hub/switch or can it be straight into the computer router with a patch cable to the network card without the hub? |

A reset to factory defaults may do the trick, I think you would need to reinstall any firmware though or, at least firmware updates. Check out the D-Link website for this or ring them. I was warned off attempting a factory reset of an ADSL router by the servie agent as being risky, think of flashing a BIOS on a sick machine, sometimes it works somtimes it doesn't. if the latter it's then kaput. You don't need a hub or swtich just a cable to connect to you card. Make sure the port takes straight through cables or can detect the cable and switch accordingly. Cheers Murray P |

Open up a DOS prompt and type "ipconfig" your IP should show up as 192.168.1.2 and the host should be 192.168.1.1 you should be able to open up a browser window type in the routers IP(192.168.1.1) and have access to web based management software. You really need to make sure you NIC is working properly and that you have a dynamic IP otherwise you wont be able to see the router, they are often on funny subnet's. |
