| 282542 | 2004-10-18 22:01:00 | Hi I am running a laptop on a high speed connection. Just wondering what the best firewall is? I have tried Sygate, Kerio, ZoneAlarm but they were just freeware versions though I am using ZA Pro trial now. I am considering buying one. Which do you think? Or are there any good freeware ones ;) Kind Regards, |

| 282543 | 2004-10-18 22:09:00 | I've been running ZA free for a few years now & apart from the last version stopping my Photosmart Printer from printing (fixed now) I've never had any problems. It can screw up every now & again but is pretty easy to fix (haven't seen it screwing up any machines for a fair while now though) I tried Kerio recently & didn't really like it, it seemed to have trouble remembering repeat access I'd allowed. As long as you have adequate AV protection & run the ususal spyware cleaners etc I see no need to pay for the Pro version imo |

One caveat is that at system startup the main screen appears and program settings are on a per user basis. eg each user needs to set their program acces individually unlike zonealarm |

| 282548 | 2004-10-18 23:04:00 | PC-Cillin 2002 is what I use, has built in anti-virus and firewall. It works really well. I got it off my mobo CD all I had to do was register and that was it. It's very good at detecting and pretty much runs by itself with very little interaction from the user. It is also good at blocking malicious code while your surfing the web. If you're looking at buying a package I would go with PC-Cillin... I think their latest one is called PC-Cillin Internet security. good hunting cheers chiefnz |

Used PCcillins for a little while, although a bit more to learn, preferred the control Kerio gave me (just used cillin for AV). Cheers Murray P |
