282433 2004-10-18 09:55:00 Greetings,

Just remembered a friend mentioning this, and as I went to grab a torrent for OpenOffice, I figured I might as well ask:

Does it affect your HDD in any way.

Somebody told me that the constant writing can shorten its life span. I was skeptical coz my HDD is in use a lot of the time regardless, but figured it couldnt hurt to ask, right?

Any ideas?

No torrent wont have any more effect on your drive than any other downloader or game or process.

282435 2004-10-18 10:01:00 Logic dictates that any piece of gear in constant use will have a shorter lifespan then an identical item that is rarely used,Logic can be biffed right out the window when it comes to computer gear though as it tends to fail 35 seconds before you desperatly need it to be working.

i wouldn't be worried about Bittorrent affecting the lifespan, anymore then i would worry about running Windows affecting the lifespan.......

Im sure there was a DOS-based Virus for a while that would run your HDD heads off the platter, I'll try and find it....
