| 282300 | 2004-10-18 06:38:00 | Hello, I'm wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this problem . When logging on to ADSL (currently orcon jetstart 128k), I constantly get the message popup "Error 691: couldn't log on because your username and/or password was not recognised on the domain" (or something along those lines) . I have to try to log on several times before I finally manage a successful log on . Nothing wrong with my password or username at all . Could it be: 1) Virus 2) Orcon problem 3) Telecom problem 4) Other technical problem 5) All or some of the above It's only been doing this for the last couple of weeks or so, and seems to be getting worse . I haven't bothered phoning Orcon or Telecom about it yet as it's only just started to really get persistent . Another problem I occasionally come across is my adsl modem failing to connect to the adsl signal on startup . Sometime the problem is resolved by unplugging the phone line and plugging it back in again . Could this be something to do with static electricity or is this something else? Anyone else get this at all? Cheers for any help . |

What sort of install do you have, filters or splitter and what else do you have connected to the line? It could be a setting issue with the router, but i doubt it. What brand and model, any known issues, firmware upgrade? Cheers Murray P |

| 282302 | 2004-10-18 07:04:00 | I'm living in an outer suburb of Hamilton so signal strength should be good. I've had ADSL for about 2 months. DSE ADSL PCI modem. Filter setup. 5 jackpoints in house but only 3 used. Two phones, one in kitchen, one in bedroom. ADSL modem connects to point in the office. I've only had this problem for the last 2 weeks. I have also noticed that when someone rings the line, occasionally the ADSL connection drops. But then I had that at my old house with a different computer and hardware. Maybe that's just a common thing with filters. |

Doesn't happen to my filtered connection, although there is only my office phone on the line. Have you had your lines tested, inside and out? The 691 error is supposed to be a authentication issue, but something else could be getting in the way. Give Orcon a call, see what ideas they come up with, they or Telecom may have been having problems. Cheers Murray P |

I have the same setup as you, and I think it may be Orcon having the problem, as I am with them like you. I haven't rang them about it, as it has happened before, and it soon clears up. | 282305 | 2004-10-18 10:01:00 | I have a DSE XH1137 PCI ADSL Modem which I gave up using because it took a long time to log on & dropped the line often. Check in the dialler that "connect to network" is un-ticked. Recently I found the latest driver for New Zealand, on the Dick Smith Web site so I tried the Modem again. It now logs on straight away, and is rock solid. (XP Pro). You may also have a leaking line filter causing erratic performance. |

I am running off the same jackpoint and have watched the bit error rate at the router with the phone ringing and see no change. | piva (3796) | ||
