| 282405 | 2004-10-18 09:09:00 | I have a trial copy of WinXP pro I would like to instal on my machine just to try it out (i have been using win98se and am getting sick to death of it). If I choose the 'install over top' method. If i choose to uninstall it will my win98SE be intact with ALL progs, documents and settings that were there prior to the winxp install? thanks for any help M@TT |

But the chance of corruption would be very significant, particularly when you are leapfrogging 3 versions and a different basis of OS (NT vs 9x) If there is anything critical, back it up. Murphy will prevail. Use Ghost or similar to do an image of 98SE, then restore the image instead of trying to unwind XP. |

| 282409 | 2004-10-19 03:36:00 | you asy your pc is running 98se, 98se can run on a 166 or so, but xp cant, can your pc handle the requirements?? | Prescott (11) | ||
| 282410 | 2004-10-19 03:46:00 | I think this is a bad idea because there has been a recent post about this where someone did what you are saying and when the time period ran out he was locked out of his computer. In other words, at the end of the trial period it is difficult to get back to the original os if you don't want to buy the new one. |
