I play BF1942 mostly, on the net and am wondering if I should be trying to increase the fps. I don't have any trouble with graphics while playing, but if it would help me see the enemy any quicker, plz tell me how to go about it. I do have the resol. set pretty high so can reduce that if I need. I get a ping of about 80 usually. Not sure if fps actually has an advantage for shooting? Does it?
Thanks for helping the clueless!

283111 2004-10-20 23:59:00 you can check your frame rate with this (www.fraps.com).

it pays to have a good fps. you can easly tell when its really poor by the amount of lag ! most important is your movement on screen is nice and smooth.

283112 2004-10-21 00:09:00 The first step to high fps without upgrading is to ensure your comp is not using resorces running unneeded programs, start>run>msconfig will list them,2 or 3 is about as lean as most would want to go,7 or 8 shouldnt be too much of a problem depending what exactly they are,any more and they soon mount up and suck the life outta ya comp .

Second option is to lower the details and resolution in the game,im no fan of this,i would just use whatever levels give you smooth gameplay .

Thirdly,Most graphics cards can be overclocked to give a few more fps,Personally i only bother when the card is getting a bit long in the tooth to play new games,i oc it to the bone to get another 6 months out of em

Then of course you could go all out and OC the cpu to your hearts content .

Personally i believe it comes down to personal preference,if you want instant higher fps then its a case of lowering the detail and res, dropping the sound quality and amount of sounds can also take a load off your cpu depending on your current audio chipset . Those that play in competion games tend to run them at the lowest settings . . . . . . but that kinda defeats the purpose of having a decent rig .

When i took online play a bit more seriously then i do now i was never happy with less then 100fps,and damn the detail and res .

Wasn't easy to acheive with a p3 450 and 16mb Voodoo3 . . . . . . . .
