| 283065 | 2004-10-20 09:24:00 | Hi I signed up for jetstream a week back, waiting for it to be connected, when ordering i was told a free xtra dial-up account had been setp to use while js was being connected, i was having a look at the usage stats on the xtra page and it showed charges of $60 roughly. A bit worried i emailed telecom just to check that it was not going to be charged, they said no but say i will have to pay $27.95!! I was told the dial account was free when ordering now they want to charge me what appears to be the charge for flat rate dial up, anybody had a similar experience, and what was the outcome? Thanks in advance |

| 283066 | 2004-10-20 09:46:00 | All I know is that they set up a dial-up account at the same time as your jetstream. The cost is horrendous though, something like $2/hr. Basically something you can use when away from home. They probably meant the cost of setting up the dial-up account is free. |

| 283068 | 2004-10-20 18:27:00 | What I don't get is that they said the dial-up account was free for use until js was connected yet they now say pay 27.95, I am only going to be using the account for 12 days! | pleasehelp (882) | ||
| 283069 | 2004-10-20 18:49:00 | Go back to them and try again. Insist that you were told that you would get a d/u connection for free until ADSL was connected. If that doesn't work, take the position that the d/u connection is not required once JS is available, that $27.95 is a monthly charge and that if you are going to have to pay it should be on a pro-rata basis ie; 12 days worth which would be around $10.80 | Raymondo (5284) | ||
| 283070 | 2004-10-20 19:02:00 | This is what they have said: "The jetstream helpdesk have advised that they will credit back all the dial-up charges except $27.95, which is the monthly charge for the Xtra Value Pack." Yet my plan at the xtra help site shows up as "Xtra Prepay 2 (30 Days Free) This is a little rediculous, I would not have used the account if I knew this sought of rubbish would occur. |

| 283071 | 2004-10-20 21:45:00 | Keep arguing. It doesn't sound right to me, or very customer friendly. Incidentally, you don't need a separate dial-up account to use dial-up away from home. You can log in on the 087303030 number. You do however pay $2.50/hour for the connection. |

You do however pay > $2.50/hour for the connection. But Winston001, if they have not set up such a "dial-up account" then you cannot use it away from home, as there is no "account" to dial into. You cannot log into the jetstream account from a dial-up connection directly. You do need a separate dial up account for remote access. I have one that was set up at the time I went onto JS, and access is $2.50 per hour as you say. Its normal for them to set one up I believe. What they are doing seems harsh if it was not explained. I would fight as well. Anyone know of a good lawyer ... ? |

Pleasehelp needs a baaaddd lawyer ;) And yes, to be pedantic, I suppose technically Xtra create a dial-up account alongside the Jetstream account. Although I thought it was the same account except the login name varied ie. godfather.xadsl.co.nz and godfather@xtra.co.nz. But the point remains that you don't need to pay $27.95/month for separate dial-up access. So there. :D |
