282807 2004-10-19 23:19:00 HI there,

I am trying to create a very basic gif image (two square boxes sitting next to one another) for my website. Only problem is I am not sure how to create them. I know that Adope Photoshop can do these things but that programme is a little over my head (and only available on my work computer). Is there a (free) basic programme out there that allows you to draw simply gif images. Also, do gif animation programmes alow you to draw gif images from scratch?

Many many thanks in advance

James

282808 2004-10-19 23:37:00 Paint or any simple graphics programme with editing capabilities will do it.

If you want animated gif's then you can either animate them in another programme or try one of the free icon/animated gif tools. I used to have one but blowed if I can remember the name. Think I downloaded it from one of those desktop/wallpaper/them/icon/cursor type sites that are everywhere on the net.

Poveray, Irfanview or the Gimp (all free for at least non-commercial use) will probably do it too.

282809 2004-10-20 00:32:00 The demo of Paintshop Pro will make animated GIF's (well atleast the old version did), it more complex than Paint but not as complex as Photoshop. Photoshop seems to be geared towards editing photos (hence the name) Paintshop is similar to Paint (once again hence the name) a lil less technical and more like a digital canvas, Pete O'Neil (250)
282810 2004-10-20 00:35:00 Thanks for that guys. I might try paint (which I see I automatically have) and paintshop pro...any ideas on where I could download the paintshop pro demo?

Thanks
James

282811 2004-10-20 00:54:00 There's a free demo here (www.jasc.com) 4bes (2848)
282812 2004-10-20 01:07:00 If you want to be a real programmer you can do it with a text editor. ;-) Have a look at Graphics Interchange Format (astronomy.swin.edu.au), for the whole thing, and, for a quick look, at GIF file structure (www.onicos.com). Graham L (2)
