282824 2004-10-20 04:31:00 What does it appear as under device manager? The name of the scanner or other device?? Is there an import/select source option in the Photoshop u use?? Spacemannz (808)
282825 2004-10-20 09:34:00 In "Device Manager" it appears as "Canoscan LiDE 20/N670U/N676U", which is correct.
The import options in Photoshop Pro are "PDF Image" and "WIA Support", whereas prior to the problem arising, I had the option of importing from the scanner as well.
It appears the programmes are simply not "seeing " the scanner for some reason.

282826 2004-10-20 20:31:00 Hi Truscott

I'm having a similar problem to you with a CanoScan 3000F, except that I'm using win2k and the scanner is recognised everywhere but will not scan . I get an error like: Error in scanner . Turn off scanner and follow instructions in manual . Scanner driver will be closed (error 201) . then a smaller box pops up with something like: Twain source could no start .

Have been down the track as you, several times, and have now got to the point where I've tracked down the various . inf and . dll's including UCS32P . DLL and deleted manually then cleaned out the reigistry, shortcuts, temp files, and all software associated with the scanner . Have downloade dfresh software and a file called DelDrv2032W . EXE from Canon which is a CS scangear and CS Tool Box deletion utility for Win XP (what the hell, I'm giving it a try on wun2k) .

I suspect software and a long haul to resolve it . One possibility is that I did a parallel installation of my OS to resolve a completeley different issue a couple of weeks back (haven't used the scanner in that time), something could be seriously confused from that even though I'm back to the new/repaired OS, cleaned out everything I could think of . Anyway, I'll let you know how I get on .

282827 2004-10-20 22:29:00 Hi Murray
Thanks for your interest and your comments. Surprisingly enough, my son in Wellington, who built my system and tutors in IT, rang me last night and tells me that his Canon N676U (essentially the same model as mine) has just started giving him the same problems as mine, except that his Device Manager does not recognise the scanner, whereas mine does. But he is getting the message regarding the Twain Server.
His interpretation was that the driver had corrupted and he completely uninstalled the Windows operating system and then re-installed it. (Windows XP Pro + SP2) It made no difference at all: the same fault is persisting.
But thanks for your comments.

282828 2004-10-20 22:45:00 Ok, I did the uninstall using the Canon driver and siftware de-install tool (all scanner software, why would the need a specific tool separate from the usual InstallShield/Wise installer/uninstaller?, problems perhaps), cleaned the registry (again), instllaed fresh downloaded copies of the twain driver and scanner software. Reconnected the scanner to a different USB port (the printers, which is ok), it's in device manager, in Control Panel > Scanners & Cameras, CanoScan Tool Box knows it's there, same freaking error, Grrrrr!

My bottom lip is hanging way, Wwaayyy out by now, I need to get on with my work!! Toddled off to to the family PC which is networked to my work PC, installed and scanning?? Now, I know that that machine gets some crap installed on it (son into gaming) but unfortunately it only gets updated when I remember (the auto update dialogue boxes interupt games, especially online) so, is it one of the recent of windows updates (has to be common to Win2k & XP) or, have three of us toasted the same files. My next step is to use msizap exe or msicuu.exe whuch are window's installer cleaners. Ate you having any problems with the Add/Remove Programs app? I am.

282829 2004-10-20 22:46:00 By the way, did your son do a clean install or install over the top or repair the existing installation?

He did a full, clean install. It took him 6 hours+ I believe.

282832 2004-10-21 02:06:00 6 hours! cripes, he has done the full 9 yards hasen't he, and reloaded all his patches and software and their patches and his data and then MS's patch patches and then something was probably broken :_| <-- out in sympathy. I don't wanna do that again so soon.

Well, I suspect some damn patch that has corupted the driver, some unregistered .dll or the installation files or a combination of. I am going to tackle it in ernest when I have the current work project with the courier's.

Johnboy, I'll give that a crack too, Ta.
