283490 2004-10-22 00:13:00 Looking for a script that would hide a visual basic program in the windows 2000 , xp task manager. Tried some on the net but they are mainly for 95 , nt etc ApeNz (4220)
283491 2004-10-22 05:58:00 what do you mean by hide from the task manager?

This mean, not show up in start bar, therefore showing up only as a process? If it was to run as a process it ideally would have no UI. You planning on writing a virus or something? o_O

283492 2004-10-22 08:20:00 no im not planning to wirte a virus - if i was i dont think i will be stupid enough to put a post of a forum !!! , anyway i want to hide it in the ctrl - alt - del - task manager - processes and aplications , the program is one that monitors my systems health and tasks action when required and i dont want people closing it ApeNz (4220)
283493 2004-10-22 08:53:00 That isn't possible as windows has to keep track of all processes running, therefore as far as I know, it must show up in at least the process window .

What you could do though is call it some obscure name so that people don't close it or make it a system process so it is difficult to close or causes the machine to shut down if it is closed (like what MSBLASTER did) .

Your best bet would be to try make it a local service with some obscure name - people arn't likely to close it unless their feeling stupd slash smart .

Actually it is possible and there are programs that already do it . There was one mentioned the other day to do with security but I can't remember off the top of my head what the name of the program was .

I would not use any program that wanted to hide itself away like that because I want to be able to choose what I want running . I sometimes shut things down when playing games and the task manager is a good way of doing that .
