283465 2004-10-21 22:29:00 Hi,
This is an unsolicted ackowledgement of the program known as Mailwasher Pro.
About six months ago,I developed a serious problem with at least 80 unsolicited e mails a day - from the USA, - a trial of the initial program showed promise and I can now report that I get on average two such a day- and they appear to be a "first time" sales pitch, and as they may be looking for fresh markets, and anything is worth a try so to speak-- I can understand the try out .
All the original spam has dropped off - and for which I am very very delighted.
Anyone who is plagued with this e mail should try it out- it will cost a donation to secure the licence but it is well worth the effort

283466 2004-10-21 23:44:00 And it's written by a lad from Christchurch named Nick Bolton.
I used to use it but since I turned on xtra's free spam filter I'd be lucky to get one spam email a fortnight

283467 2004-10-22 01:12:00 I use it too.And Paradise does have free spam and antivirus protection,so I don't get any spam now.I also don't get some newsletters, and emails from a friend,as I've just discovered!!So now I have to logon and check the spam box,as they've advised that they'll be deleting stuff every 7 days now instead of 30. 283468 2004-10-22 06:27:00 Hi, neil McC and 45 south,
I too have an xtra account as well as free.net and xtra is signed up by me to eliminate spam---Ha ! big joke-- without exception all the spam from the Staes is via the xtra address, nothing on free.net, and if xtra are in fact limiting spam God help me- from 80 odd a day all with the xtra address,
and of course with this Mailwasher down to 2 - in fact I got 3 today but it is unusual.
I re checked my set up with xtra and it is in operation but it sure as hell is not foolproof.
So, again goodluck to anybody who wants to beat the spam-- use Mailwasher( no doubt in conjunction with xtra)

283470 2004-10-22 07:25:00 If u want to get rid of spam for free try Spampal. That'll fix spammers. It's let u blacklist entire isps, and it'll delete emails straight from the server. Without ever seeing it. With 1 message rule in OE.

Or whitelist ppl / trusted isps / email addresses, so u can still receive email from mates.

283471 2004-10-22 10:00:00 There's a free version which is fully functional - not sure but it may be an older version.

But yeah it's a great program. Someone on PF1 had a copy of it mirrored on his site.

283472 2004-10-22 10:32:00 Hi effie c
I have been using Mailwasher for a few years now and love it. Have to admit I am still using the free version. Strangely enough I had my first problem with it today. Everytime I start up Mailwasher in the morning I have to re-enter my account details ???? I figure it is a problem with some other software but I am not sure what?
Any suggestions?

283473 2004-10-22 11:41:00 Sorry to be the exception but I find mailwasher to be useless & ineffective. Have tried bouncing everything & not bouncing just deleting. Makes no difference. Spam mail has actually increased since I started using it. Now regularly get 25 - 30 spam a day. Peter M (852)

Bouncing spam is utterly pointless. Reason being that 9 times out of 10 the return address on the spam is either false or forged. All it does is add to the spam problem. Also, when you bounce messages you're impersonating your ISP's mail server. This could possibly be against your ISP's terms and conditions.

Personally, I can't see what all the fuss about mailwasher is about. If I get any spam I just delete it from my inbox.
