283773 2004-10-23 02:22:00 I've acquired a new keyboard that has Internet, Office, and Multimedia keys, among other things.

It comes with a CD that presumably has the driver/software to get all the keys working correctly, but I was looking for something that would give me a bit more flexibility (such as assigning the MS Office keys to work with OpenOffice.org).

I remembered that somebody had posted a link to an interesting program a wee while ago here, but couldn't find anything useful in the search results, and Google has been less than helpful.

So, anyone got some good ideas for programs?

283774 2004-10-23 04:11:00 Wash the keyboard carefully with isopropyl alchohol, then spray paint it beige, and you can re-mark the keys with a felt pen to whatever takes your fancy.

The software on the cd that comes with the keyboard SHOULD offer the option of assigning the special keys to the function of your choice. The manual that comes with the keyboard could well have some handy hints along these lines, saving you the hassle of random experimentation.

283775 2004-10-23 11:32:00 Well, I've tried the software that comes with it, and it's not really to my liking.

Especially the part about it using Netropa software, which you may remember there was a thread about a while ago: pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

283778 2004-10-24 06:57:00 would this also apply to a laptop with a faulty keyboard?
I.E. spacebar doesn't work, no M, no Alt, Fcn etc
Could I remap those to say the function keys?

I have a price for a new keyboard overlay at about $130 but took the option to buy a USB keyboard instead, + the battery doesn't hold a charge for more than a few minutes any,
Have seen Laptops advertised this weekend for just over $1200 for a Packard Bell and better specs than the 3yo one that I have......
