Low volume users that just do a bit of browsing the intarwebnet and receiving smiley encrusted forwards.

Not everyone rapes their bandwidth, this place is more likely to be frequented by those that do.

I like to download UK TV programs from www.uknova.com

They happen to have a few of my faves on there, like Match of the Day and some good documentaries and comedy shows.
Makes a nice alternative to watching the ad-infested Kiwi TV which seems to have less and less British TV these days.

283944 2004-10-24 04:49:00 How right you are growly... However I was doing a constand 120KB/s down, and between 100 -> 200KB/s uploaded....

It wasnt throttled.... Under normal circumstances your reasoning would be correct, but aside from the fact that I was limited only by my connection speed of around 7800kbps, I was unlimited in my downloads!

Got Fedora Core pre-release... and many other things from torrents!

Barmy, not sure if it is from Sky or Saturn TV stable but, UKTV as the name suggests is UK programmes and UK only. We get the Sky and Saturn combo via cable, check it out if you can get either.

I agree

That is not so anymore. telecom have now got their speed limiting working and you may get limited. The guy called me today and explained it fully when I asked. He said that at present they do have the ability and some people have been limited this month. So you may or may not get limited but he said one thing was sure that if you went over every month then you would certainly get limited. This has just started happening this month.

If it was Hitler, Bush, Blair, Bin Laden would you say the same?

Please explain why Telecom deserve to be excluded from criticism.

283948 2004-10-25 09:27:00 I'm with Orcon on Jetstream (not bitstream) - 3GB per month, 256K/128K. It's hell!

I use at least 4.5GB per month (that's $75 in extras), and the speed is a crawl with 14 computers all using it at once, including 1 server and 13 computers (the number of computers constantly varies).

I am switching ASAP to the 10GB / 2mbps / 192k plan, although I desperately need more upstream speed (host 4 sites, normally about 6 people on them at once).

I really want off Telecom but need alternatives. Telstra have a 2mbit / 512k / 5gb plan but I would use the 5gb too quickly.

The next up plan there is 10mbit / 1mbit / 10GB but thats $140 a month. Hell of a better deal than Jetstream full speed though. That would be what, like $600 a month on Telecom?

283949 2004-10-25 09:47:00 We do seem to get ripped off on upstream speed here. Having said that, I don't know what is typical elsewhere.
And what is a typical downstream/upstream ratio elsewhere I wonder?
Telecoms 2mb/192kb seems a bit slow on the upstream side. I guess it depends what you need it for. Most people probably won't need a good uploading speed.
I've read Telecom don't want to make the upstream too fast because they still want to make money out of corporate videoconferencing services.
