283862 2004-10-24 23:24:00 Thanks metla.... Yea, I'll be making sure I use the battery once in a while, maybe once or twice a month.

Huge obstacle remains though.... good old parents. + I have exams starting tomorrow :(

283867 2004-10-25 02:30:00 I agree - For that sorta price you cant go wrong.

I dont see what the question is about performance... Its a 1.6Ghz AMD processor, and it (According to the AMD performance measuring whatever thingy-whatsit) performs at 2400+. Obviously this is not going to perform as well as an EE HT 2.4Ghz P4, but it'll still be fine for everything you'll be doing.

You said you're not doing gaming, rather desktop applications such as browsing, emails etc so basically you'll notice precious little difference (If you can) between this and a 1.6Ghz Centrino.

I agree with Metla, listen to him, he knows what he's talking about......

At that sorta price, why wouldnt you?!

Battery life will be good enough I'd say, 90 - 120mins depending on the speed you run it at?!

End of the day, it looks like a good all-round laptop, at a great price, and performance is something you're not going to notice (Nor should you be worried about seeing as you're not a gamer/power-user).

Hope this helps

Chill.

283868 2004-10-25 04:33:00 In the end....

I've resisted myself from crying for not being able to buy. Store has closed, deal has ended.... 'Welcome to reality' [of not having it] I heard.

Gonna still wait... as I have for the last two years. Hopefully there will be as good/if not better deals later on as some had told me. Afterall, I didn't need it.

Thanks to all that offered advice -at least I've learnt something for later purchases.

283869 2004-10-25 05:24:00 if you did buy it and didnt use it you could put the cpu in your desktop and oc it and get insane results...... Prescott (11)

really? It is an 'Mobile' processor though. Is it socket A?

If so, can I just put a desktop Athlon XP in?

283871 2004-10-25 06:07:00 They are both socket A and people have been paying large amounts of money to import the laptop chip and then sourceing a compatible mobo in order to get better then average overclocks.

The bizarre thing about it is that for far less money they could have bought far more powerful desktop components, and still been able to oc them.I believe its bragging rights, they get boned up about what they can write in their sigs at various overclocking forums.

Never heard of anyone doing it in the reverse direction......
