2004-10-22 08:47:00 | Hi All, Are the above the same, in all respects?. Our W98se has MSN Messenger now v6.2. XP has Windows Messenger & I would like to quit this & install MSN v6.2. However it will not install. Does the Windows one have to be removed first. Thanks PJ | Poppa John (284) | |
2004-10-22 08:56:00 | I don't see why MSN 6 . 2 doesn't install . I find that 6 . 2 has better features than windows messenger (especially once MSNPlus is installed) . Try redownloading it from messenger . msn . com Windows messenger will then be disabled and leave only 6 . 2 running, you shouldn't have to do anything other than run it . - David

2004-10-22 09:15:00 | DD. Thanks for prompt reply. I must be doing something wrong. MSN v6.2 apparently downloads & installs. However, I get a different sign in page etc on the W98se, is this done by the W98 versus the XP programming? Also when entering "My Contacts" it persists in asking me to download . After 3 downloads I think it ought to be installed !!!. What now. Windows Mess is not in add/remove, else I would. PJ | Poppa John (284) | |
2004-10-22 09:25:00 | Windows Messenger is a bit of a ***** to get rid of, so I would leave it alone to tell the truth . I belive the sign in page for 6 . 2 has minimal differences between 98 and XP, so there must be something not quite right there . Make sure you are actually running 6 . 2 (restart after you install it, just in case), check the version by going to 'help' and then 'about' in the menu . On your XP machine, once you login on 6 . 2 does it then ask you to redownload? Are you sure you can't hit cancel or something? - David

2004-10-22 09:27:00 | Let me change that please.. Click on MSN icon, to get popup box. Click on "My online contacts" & I get the Windows Mess on top of the MSN page. If I click on "Open MSN Explorer" & I get the MSN homepage. On here click on 'Messenger" & get the Orange Download screen. PJ | Poppa John (284) | |

2004-10-22 09:53:00 | 7.2 was a beta that was on limited release and was then pulled by MS,anyone who has it and tries to run it will notice the rather odd behavior of it trying to "update" to the later version(which is actaully the older version),which fails as in good old MS tradition you cant load older softer over the newer version, even if the newer version has been disabled by them...... You will need to remove 7.2 via add/remove programs and then download and install 6.whatever it is....

2004-10-24 06:32:00 | May I revisit this topic Please, I have not resolved it yet. In add/remove ther is no reference to the 7.2 or any other version. I think I would like to totally remove all versions & start again. How do I do this Please. PJ
