1355414 2013-10-08 20:53:00 Anyone notice last night's late edition TV One news the opening comment about storm damage in the "posh" suburb of Devonport? Totally unnecessary and unwarranted comment. Does TV One have a list of "posh", "middle-class" and "lower-class" suburbs to be used in news reports? coldot (6847)
1355415 2013-10-08 21:00:00 We know what South Auckland stands for. Lurking (218)

1355417 2013-10-08 21:28:00 What do you expect from NZ news these days.. paulw (1826)
1355418 2013-10-08 21:42:00 Given the cumulative effects of NZ's inter-generational brain drain,
we should probably be grateful that our news is intelligible and delivered
by someone who is not actively drooling down their front. ;)

1355419 2013-10-08 21:48:00 Well for years, the TV and radio news and current affairs presenters have called their programs "shows", reminiscent of a show at the end of a pier, or 'The Billy Cotton Band Show', or The Black and White Minstrel Show, so what else can one expect ? :) Terry Porritt (14)

I did not know it had improved as much as that. ;)

1355421 2013-10-08 22:14:00 Well hardly extreme bias, it's not like they said "serves them right the snobby bastards" and we got the relevant points , what & where - storm damage, devonport.
The rest is mainly fluff anyway. I'd call it a slight bias, or an uneeded description.

As to bias, everyone is, you me, the news, everyone. Even making a deliberate attempt to be fair and unbiased is in itself a little biased. We can't help it, it's human nature to value our own opinions and beliefs more than those of most other people.

Bit like our Eastern suburb, used to be middle class and predominately Anglo/European make-up.

What's left after the latest Census exodus would be interesting to see.

Lurking.
