1354694 2013-09-30 21:52:00 Porsche's hybrid hypercar, the 918 Spyder, takes on the infamous Green Hell - Nurburgring Nordschleife - and manages a blistering record breaking run of just 6:57. Porsche insiders say it can go even faster.

Taken from the passenger seat.

1354695 2013-09-30 22:42:00 6:57 is pretty nuts. I think only the Radical SR8 has done better out of any sort of street-legal vehicle, surely... (or is the Zonda R classed as street legal?) inphinity (7274)
1354696 2013-10-01 04:54:00 Of course it can go faster! Did you see all that equipment sitting in the passenger seat!!! Get rid of that and you could shave another 30 seconds off that time!

Pity there was no telemetry displayed for the video...

That's the first time I've seen the whole track from the driver's POV - that's one snakey course!!!

1354697 2013-10-01 05:16:00 Wow, i knew Porsche was fast, but that fast, just wow. Take that the LaFerrari, McLaren P1 or any other 'Supercar' darkoverlord123 (16996)

1354699 2013-10-01 07:51:00 If he drives like that for his licence test there's a fail in his future. ;) R2x1 (4628)

1354702 2013-10-02 21:45:00 It's impressive to be sure, but I think hybrids and electric cars are a dead end. Using current technology they are worse for the enviroment, expensive to produce, expensive to maintain, and not all that practical when it comes to the electric only battery powered ones. Until they come up with a power source that can be replenished in minutes and is practical on a large scale electric cars are just a feel good marketing exercise for deluded greenies with enough money to afford them and not enough sense to see they don't help the enviroment.

Still, the porsche looks awesome and goes like crazy. It's an impressive feat of engineering and the real value in these things is the developing of new technology which may trickle down to the real world at some point.

Clearly, the rational choice is to continue burning fossil fuels :waughh:
