We could use the same argument with any Professional sport: rugby, soccer/football, Olympics, Tennis , Golf. These things all cost big $$ to run (and many are run at a loss). Those $$ have to come from somewhere. ie Corporate sponsorship. Dont want corporate sponsorship, professional sportsmen, expensive boats ??. We allready have that, go down to the local beach on the weekend & watch the kids racing their tiny yachts . No we want the big exciting stuff, on TV. That costs $$$$$$ |

Professional sports seems like an oxymoron to me, something I consider a recreational pastime rather than an occupation. That's just me, I know a lot of people love the whole thing so I leave them to it. I'm not against sport, it's a good thing, but turning it into this huge professional industry is not something I'm a supporter of. |

Thats true, But at least here I don't feel like I'm getting crippled financially while the money is spent on flights of fancy. It seems the basics are at least covered. NZ feels poor, and it seems the government likes it that way, either funneling money out of the communities into big business, or just taxing the workers and spreading it among the rest. Could be wrong, But that's what my guts tells me. |

Must be great knowing that boat people are held in higher regard then yourself and your hard working family by the Aussie government |

I agree. It is completely wrong that NZ taxpayers have to pay various benefits to Australians after they have lived here for a couple of years when NZers don't have access to the same when they are over there regardless of whether they are fully employed and paying tax or not. |

Must be great knowing that boat people are held in higher regard then yourself and your hard working family by the Aussie government I don't expect or want their welfare. I agree with their stance, If you fail then go home. Why should any country pay for New Zealand's failure, especially when millions of dollars are funneled offshore in the name of foreign aid. In the mean time we will make use of their schooling, their medical care and their community infrastructure. |

| 1354900 | 2013-10-03 18:38:00 | Perhaps the rich could pay for their own fun. Only a few million, nothing to those pricks. They sure can but they don't want to. They expect others to pay for their entertainment - that's how they become rich. Simple theory. |
