Probably all the government employees no longer being paid ;) Considering government services range from national parks to the epa, I'd say it'd affect quite a few people who are still being paid as well. Also can't see the tourist operators being especially pleased. |

They should be put into their own countries to get on with their lives without the workers they despise to support them. x2 |

It's a bit of long stretch to put NZ National and NZ First into the same category as the Republican party. Act would be a closer comparison. NZ National is closer to the Democrats. |

That would save enough to pay the real workers |

There will be quite a few tourists who would be on their bucket list "trip of a lifetime", having saved for years to go and see these things now being denied entry to the attractions they were really looking forward to seeing. I know I would be most unhappy if I were one of them and indeed might have been if circumstances had not dictated otherwise. |

I heard a Kiwi Guy on the radio the other morning (might have been the morning of the shut down actually) that he had gone to NYC for his best friends significnt birthday (don't remember which one) and they were celebrating by going to the Statue but couldn't :( I mean could you imagine if NZ just shut down Te Papa, Skytower, Queenstown and all the ski slopes, every bundgie jump and the walk to the light house! |
