2004-10-25 03:23:00 | Re FAQ #60 pressf1.pcworld.co.nz Is it possible to network the following setups?: a: Win XP Home Sp2, 256mb ram, 40g hdd, p4.1600 (NTFS) - and - b: Win 98se, 48mb ram, 200mb hdd, p100 (FAT32?) The latter system is kinda ancient, circa 1992, could a modern networking card be used? Thanks

2004-10-25 03:38:00 | The only problem may be that the Windows 98 computer will not be able to read the NTFS partitions directly. See this page (kb.indiana.edu) for more information. | tommy (2826) | |
2004-10-25 03:39:00 | Afterthought, If buying new LAN Cards ensure drivers are available for 98. Some of the new cheapie hardware is not supporting older O/S. D.

2004-10-25 03:53:00 | Tommy, Thats a good article. Its perspective unfortunatly promotes the NTFS trap by sujesting 98 be replaced by xp on NTFS. Fat, ext2, udf. are universal compatibale formats. M/S chose to make ext invisible to Windows. M/S chose to make NTFS Dificult /incompatible. The poster issues make cause him/her to reconsider his/her use of NTFS, and the incompatability issues it raises. D.

I was referring more to the Windows 98 computer not being able to view the files on the Windows XP computer if the latter has NTFS partitions. Am I wrong with this information? |
