284357 2004-10-25 02:54:00 Hello all

I have discovered the most annoying problem on earth.... Everytime I click on two Particular folders (containing updates and music) Windows crashes and I am prompted with the "send this to Microsoft" dialouge box. My computer is completely virus free (I purchased Norton AV 2005 as I was certain it was a virus) and I have no Spy-Ware on the computer.

I am running Windows Xp Service Pack 2, I have scoured forums, microsoft, and asked around but I still cannot find a solution!

284358 2004-10-25 04:56:00 The problem could be with whatever program is associated with the files in the folder.

Try unassociating the music player that you currently use as an example, from the music files.

There is plenty on Google about this.

284359 2004-10-25 05:00:00 I would check event viewer see what that shows when it crashes.

Do u mean it just brings up the send to ms window, or does it completely reboot the system as well.

284360 2004-10-25 06:25:00 Like I said I have already scoured various sources, if it's all over google could you please link me to the relevant material.

It does not reboot the system but crashes back to desktop, then has to load all items in taskbar again etc... This cannot be done ifI don't "end task" on the folder which has jsut crashed.

Will try the methods as you suggested and see if it helps.

284361 2004-10-25 06:29:00 Use the words:

opening folder crashes xp

to Google. No quotes, just the words as shown.

That will give several interesting leads along the lines I suggested, that it could be related to the programs trying to associate themselves to the content files.
