285076 2004-10-27 02:45:00 I have this problem with the internet everytime I connect a warning prompt comes up saying that the following programs cannot be run in 16 bit mode. I have done a search about the programs on google but nothing. I have updated my Antivirus, Spyware and Adware softwares and ran these, however everytime I get rid of them the next time I connect back they come.
The two programs are GREGWX.EXE and GRGEGRE.EXE
How do I get rid of these and stop them from returning.

Cheers

285077 2004-10-27 02:49:00 Do a search for them and find out what programs they run. If it's nothing you want then delete them.

285078 2004-10-27 02:59:00 So Spybot S&D or Ad-aware detect these as spyware and removes them? Have a look under msconfig and see whether they are select to start on boot up. Run whatever program finds and removes the exe's and then do this:

Start > Run > msconfig - OK. Look under the startup tab and remove the tick from those entries. Restart the computer.

See if this helps.

This is also a FAQ button in the top right hand corner which has a FAQ on spyware.

285079 2004-10-27 03:49:00 I have deleted these programs, I have run Adaware and Spybot and removed the files. I have checked MSCONFIG and nothing there, I have checked Win.ini and System.ini nothing there, I have checked the registry and nothing there but when I connect back they come. xineohp (3165)
285080 2004-10-27 03:57:00 Looks like virii to me,what AV are you using?

Try nod32,they have a trial package,or an online scanner,i don't use the online ones so someone else will have to recomend one.

285081 2004-10-27 04:02:00 TrendMicro (housecall.trendmicro.com) is an often recommended online scanner , housever it failed me yesterday , Symantec also have an online scanner - I just find it via Google - just wondering , are you turning off system restore to fully delete these items ? 285082 2004-10-27 04:18:00 The Spyware FAQ has links to other online scanners, both virus and trojan. There is also other information there that could be of some help. Susan B (19)
285083 2004-10-27 20:41:00 First clean out your cache's, which could be re-infecting you. Then run your adaware etc..

Neat little freebie to do this is Ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) Leave on default settings, but I would recommend ticking the "delete index.dat" box as well.
