All the bootup floppy seek setting does in the BIOS is to tell the BIOS whether to look to see if the system has a floppy drive. If enabled and there isnt a floppy drive there will be an error message. If the setting is disabled that test will be skipped. In fact it can with advantage be left disabled to speed the boot by a microsecond:) It does not affect booting from a floppy. |

2004-10-26 18:52:00 | The floppy works in other machines and "normal"use of floppies works. I am trying to use partition magic so if it will not start from boot is it ok to load it after XP has loaded ??????

2004-10-26 18:54:00 | Also when seek etc was enabled there was no error message | Dumb1 (5351) | |
2004-10-26 19:04:00 | if you have PM installed on the operating system of course it's ok to use it after you have gotten to windoze.........if necessary PM will reboot your machine to work in 'dos' to resize partitions etc anyway | drcspy (146) | |
2004-10-26 19:13:00 | I mean can I run it from the floppies.I want to "find" and reformat a linux HD that I have installed but does not show in Windows. | Dumb1 (5351) | |
2004-10-26 19:18:00 | What version of PM do you have? Earlier ones could only work in DOS (where it's safer) not windows hence, the reboot. Cheers Murray P
