2004-10-26 11:47:00 | Can't find anything about it on Spybot's own site, so will wait till they mention it. Did go to your link though. | pulling hair out (4493) | |
2004-10-26 12:09:00 | I agree Marg ... "The DSO Exploit is a security gap in IE. Microsoft did already repair this, so if you have all Windows updates and patches installed, it will not be dangerous for your system. Spybot S&D will still find it, because it contains an invalid value. Spybot S&D just has to reset that value. Unfortunately, in the current version, it sets again an incorrect value, so it is found in the next scan. Please update your main program. " So I presume an update will be available thru the official site soon And thank you gerrypics for the "heads up" :)

2004-10-27 02:39:00 | I've always thought this (www.safer-networking.org) was the "official " site ? I wonder if the DSO fix will become available through the " update function integrated into Spybot-S&D." ? | KatiMike (242) | |

Yet I could get them from the following link: Here (www.allsecpros.com) Why doesn't Patrick Kolla mention this anywhere? It's getting rather confusing. For I while there I couldn't get any updates through the program and had to go the manual way. It's OK now though after about the 2nd reinstall of Spybot. |

2004-10-27 02:57:00 | Just noticed that on that link to Majorgeeks, at the bottom left-hand corner is an icon with ' Lavasoft authorised affiliate' written on it. | pulling hair out (4493) | |
2004-10-27 04:05:00 | Its common practice for Lavasoft(adawere) and Spybot to release new files/updates/beta's, etc etc via majorgeeks website. | metla (154) | |
2004-10-27 19:01:00 | last night a new update for Spybot came thru - definitions / English help etc incl the need to immunise again . Have run it on 3 'puters so far and each time it's picked up an oddity , once said BackOrifice was present [ but not found by Norton or AVG or trend micro housecall , on two others said something in German was present ... also doesn't seem the DSO fix is incorporated into the fix , at least not in win2k ... :| | KatiMike (242) | |
2004-10-27 20:12:00 | The TX version DOES fix the DSO prob. Well it did on these 2 PC's running XP. Not too sure why it still picks it up on yours KatiMike. Just to be sure i would go to the Symantec site and check out what files Backorifice uses and what entries it puts in the system, and check your system manually, for any known signs of BO. There was a prob in the previous version also of Spybot (well on this PC), Xabot, which said something in German. BUT since the TX install that has disappeared as well. If it is Xabot, that you saw, it may well be the same bug I came across, when I had the 1.3 version.
