285347 2004-10-26 05:02:00 I quite honestly do not think you would notice any difference.

Get which ever one is cheapest. Or, if price is not important, get whichever has the nicest looking box. Or you could go by AMD/Intel motherboard features.

285348 2004-10-26 05:03:00 "Future proof"?

That statement can never be made when talking of a PC.

Whatever you choose it will be obsolete in 3 months, positively decrepit in a year.

do not bother trying.

it will be out of date as soon as its out of the shop and 2-3 years later they will have a pc twice the speed.

get one that will do the job thats in your price range. as long as there is a bit of room for upgrades you should be fine.

personally i would go for the AMD but the motherboard is more of a critical choice.

285352 2004-10-26 06:10:00 I'm an intel inclined semi fanboy but imho go with the amd. I can't take a shine to prescotts. the highlander (245)
285353 2004-10-26 06:41:00 The A64 will OWN the P4 any day of the week, specially if it is a P4 B (533 MHz version).

A p4 C 3 GHz is approximately equal to a A64 2800+.
