Then check your DNS.

Apologies once again for ignorance, but "check DNS"? Where? How? I should mention that things worked perfectly up to about 2 weeks ago. Then I would get on after about 5 attempts. Now I can't get Internet at all on that PC without system restore.

285429 2004-10-29 00:07:00 Right click the connection in the Network connections > properties > scroll down to TCP/IP and double click. You should be seeing somthing similar to this (sal.neoburn.net). Rob99 (151)
285430 2004-10-29 00:35:00 Under the TCP/IP properties General tab the "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are selected. The PC I am using now (not the one with the problem) is also set up the same way. That would suggest the settings are right. Yes?? k8smum (6062)
285431 2004-10-29 01:28:00 Not if you are having problems.
Enter the DNS on both computers.

Hmm... as an IT worker, it is a constant source of frustration that people just expect you to help them with their home computers. Not trying to antagonise, but maybe going to a repair store might be better... I mean if you were a builder would you want to knock together a deck for someone on your days off? Food for thought.

No, but the root of the problem is more important.

When you reboot, can you:

See the other computers on the network?
Get e-mail using a normal mail program like Outhouse Express?
Use other apps like MSN?
or is it just IE?

Have you:

Checked for viruses?
Run SpyBot/AdAware?
Run all the WindowsUpdates

Do you:

Have a firewall that might be hosing it's settings?
Know of anything else significant that might've changed around the same time the problem started? Kids downloading new programs etc?
