286063 2004-10-29 20:58:00 A lame question, but one that frustrates me since I cannot find what must be an obvious feature...

Every time I open a new Word document, I enlarge the margins by dragging the rulers at the left and at the top. Back in the days when I used Office 97, I found a way that would set the margins permanently but cannot find the same thing now.

This is for 'Word 2002'.

Thanks.

286064 2004-10-29 21:03:00 Every new document is based on the "normal.dot" template stored on your PC.

Opening this in Word, and setting all the defaults that you want, then saving it will fix your problems.

The easy way is to use File - Page Setup - set the margins and click the Default button, which achieves the same thing.

Now why couldn't I find Page Setup??!!! :_|

Normal.dot - - I found this, adjusted margins, and saved it. :)

Again, open Normal.dot in word, select the paragraph marker (or hit Ctrl+A). Change the font size and click save.

286068 2004-10-29 23:56:00 There is no need to go into the normal.dot file to change the default settings.

To change the margins go to File>Page Setup, change the settings to your requirements then click on "Default..." at the bottom of the dialogue box and it will save your changes to the normal.dot template.

To change the font go to Format>Font, do your changes then once again click on "Default..." at the bottom of the dialogue box.

There are other settings you can save as the default as well, eg the Theme.
