286308 2004-10-31 22:03:00 Sounds like a connection prob if:

Youre doing a clean install again, and XP's setup cant find them

And the SATA's dont appear in the BIOS in the main screen somewhere .

There are 2 cables coming out from each of the SATA's arent there?? The one going to to the mobo, and the power, which SHOULD be going to a spare molex plug, via an adapter . (If there are no adapters on the power supply power supply) .

If you're not going to use raid, I wouldnt worry about the drivers for the SATA .

XP SHOULD install fine, without them . (the drivers) . You MAY have to format the 2nd SATA once XP has installed (Thru Control Panel info below)

BOTH the SATA's now . Can XP read BOTH of them (or can you get into BOTH SATA's from XP the way it is now), or just one??

If you go to Control Panel/Admin Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management, and highlight either SATA, what does it tell u in the right window??

Correct . 2 cables accounted for .

Originally (back in April) this was the way I intended installing, but everytime I tried, the XP install just stopped with a screen saying no drives could be found to install XP on .

I'm at work at the mo', so can't answer that definitively, but I'm sure it shows the RAID array . Anyhow, XP can access the whole 240Gb - 4 partitions .

My biggest fear with playing around with RAID drivers is that I accidently corrupt something - as you say, RAID 0 has no fault tolerance - though having said that, there is nothing of great value on the PC at the moment . I'm not sure how dangerous it is to change the BIOS settings for SATA and RAID - I do recall during one of my attempts at installing XP that the BIOS displayed a 3rd and 4th IDE controller - I don't think I was able to install at that stage though - could be wrong ?:|

286310 2004-10-31 22:29:00 Umm . When u enabled RAID in the BIOS, did you set RAID up in the BIOS??

And create a RAID volume?? For either raid 0 or 1? Not just assume that XP / the BIOS would detect them? It MIGHT be possible why either dont appear as 3rd or 4th master?

In the BIOS theres an option to do this, with the options (this is on the non-deluxe tho)

1 . Create Raid volume
2 . Delete raid volume
3 . Reset Disks to non-raid
4 . Exit

?? And did the brands/size of the SATA's appear in this screen? They should down the bottom .

286311 2004-11-01 04:43:00 Another question Steve. What brand/model are these SATA's??

Are your SATA's Maxtor??

Coz a later version of the BIOS update fixes this

P4P800 Deluxe and P4P800 BIOS V1009

Do not use Aflash.exe to update BIOSPlease use EZflash or Afusos.exe.

Fix Maxtor 6Y120M0 YAR51BW0 Serial-ATA hard disk drive cannot be detected.

Change DMI Base Board Information to "ASUSTeK Computer Inc.".

Revise DMI System Slots information for PCI slots.

Update Intel RAID boot ROM to v3.5.0.2568 to support RAID-1 mode(only with IAA v3.5 or later).

286313 2004-11-01 06:18:00 OK. Well if u didnt do the previous, when u enabled RAID, I wld try that in the BIOS. See what happens. If the drives still dont show in the BIOS. I wld get the 1018 or the 1019 beta bios from

ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/BIOS/Socket_478/INTEL_Chipset/i865pe/P4P800/1019__05.zip

This update isnt on the ASUS site. Not sure if it was just me, but the 1018
BIOS, when I used it, put my time behind about 1/2 an hour!
