286038 2004-10-29 10:18:00 Man I should pay more attention to what I type... :D

Basically the router wanted to be boss and hand out the ip addresses to the computers on the network. I had my pcs set up with specific addresses and I couldn't connect to or ping the router until I changed the TCP/IP network settings on both pcs to "obtain IP addresses automatically/dynamically".

This is an ADSL router btw.

286043 2004-10-29 10:47:00 No Rob I Hadn't looked there. I have just had a look and will go back and look again but I am afraid all that computer speak goes right over my head.

286044 2004-10-30 03:57:00 Thanks for your posts on this subject MabO and Rob99. I finally got the IP and DNS addresses from Paradise and reset the PC. No problems.
Thought I would set up the router manually, seeing the Wizard didn't work and just followed the prompts in the book that came with it. Took about 15mins and I am now on the net "Wirelessly". Cool!
Only one problem; the router is a 802.11g and is suposed to give access at 54Mbps, but it is only running at 11Mbps. Anyone got any clues?

286045 2004-10-30 03:58:00 Sorry HadO, I was getting you mixed up with that famous Aussie land claim. theotherone (1421)
286046 2004-10-30 04:56:00 Haven't really played with WiFi equipment but...

If the router is 802.11g then the system you are using as a client must also be 802.11g (not b) and even if they are both g sometimes a high speed connection can only be acheived if the server (router) and client system use the same brand hardware!
