2004-10-30 06:06:00 | Anyone? Hopeless asking Orcon at the moment. "...we will be with you in approximately 1 minutes". Half an hour later: "...we will be with you in approximately 1 minutes".

2004-10-30 07:33:00 | I can login under my new bitstream login (username@orcon.net.nz) but the speed is still at jetstart speed (128kbs). | barmypom (6048) | |
2004-10-30 08:33:00 | I was supposd to be connected on the 29th. Didn't happen. Sent an email to Orcon that nite support but no reply. The login username@orcon.net.nz dosn't work for me. Still using my old login | paulw (1826) | |
2004-10-30 09:10:00 | I was changed over to Bitstream on Tues. 26th, I had received an email saying it would be done on the 29th but apparently Telecom shifted some over earlier... First I knew something was up was when internet connection dropped out on 26th, I rebooted router and still couldn't get an IP addy. I then tried an "@orcon.net.nz" sign in and it worked, with a 60.* IP address. No email from anyone telling me this was happening. Cool, I thought, until Thursday evening when it cut out again. I tried the old "@fastadsl.net.nz" sign in and that worked. Friday mid morning it stopped again :( No log on worked, and so I phoned Orcon. The wait was about 15 mins (the time that the message advised that the wait was going to be was actually correct to the minute!) and Orcon advised that Telecom had been shuffling RANs so it should come back on in time. I had no net all day. I emailed Orcon from work and grumbled. Received a phone call from Orcon help desk in late afternoon saying it was fixed now, and it was when I got home :D. I have been on bitstream since then and no real problems, apart from the odd site cannot be found, however refreshing the page usually works. Gaming pings are lower than I had up to the changeover too. Router says connection is 320 down / 160 up. Downloads are 33 - 35 kbps. Web seems snappier apart from the odd timeout as mentioned before. /rant

2004-10-30 09:27:00 | Well I was told I would be connected on the 29th (yesterday). I noticed that my new login (username@orcon.net.nz) has been active for the last couple of weeks, basically since I got the confirmation email from Orcon saying that Bitstream would be enabled by Telecom on the 29th. I've have actually been having login problems with jetstart for the last couple of weeks since the email. I ended up phoning Orcon last nite (the mobile afterhours number cos the main line was blocked all day) and it turned out, apparently, that the reason for my login problems was that whoever enabled the orcon.net.nz username forgot to disable jetstart. Basically I'm now able to login to bitstream using username@orcon.net.nz, but my speed hasn't changed. So nothing seems to have happened yesterday at all, or today for that matter.
