286223 2004-10-30 04:17:00 I have just set up a new wireless router and am now wireless. Cool! Only one problem; the router is a 802.11g and is suposed to give access at 54Mbps, but it is only running at 11Mbps. Anyone got any clues?
Cheers,
Rob

286224 2004-10-30 04:21:00 Whats the wireless card B or G??? that maybe why. Spacemannz (808)
286225 2004-10-30 04:27:00 Intel Pro/wireless LAN2100 3B Mini PCI Adaptor, I will be pissed if it is only a b card as it is a 2month old Asus laptop!!!! theotherone (1421)
286226 2004-10-30 04:29:00 Well that might be why its at 11mb which 802.11b runs at. 802.11g runs at 54mb. I would find out which card you have exactly. Spacemannz (808)
286227 2004-10-30 04:35:00 Just looked up the card and sure enough it is a 802.11b so I have wasted about $90 on getting the 54g router. Now that really p's me off.
Can't blame anyone else though, unfortunately.

286228 2004-10-30 05:32:00 You could slap in a cardbus 802.11g wifi card into the laptop - more $$$ though :D HadO (796)
286229 2004-10-30 21:25:00 Yeah I wondered about that HadO. It doesn't seem to bad so far but I haven't done any serious downloading as yet.
The notebook is still under warantee and I wouldn't want to do anything to void that.
Cheers,
Rob

286230 2004-10-30 22:09:00 No warranty concearns to worry about!

A cardbus expansion card simply slips in this side - just an addon component - this would not affect your warranty in any way.

The wifi card would just take over the networking job of your onboard wifi - you would have to disable this which is easy.

I honestly wouldn't bother unless your streaming or sharing large files within your own local network - 11Mbs is fast enough for any internet connection in New Zealand!
