286028 2004-10-29 09:53:00 Hi PF1ers,
I have finally bought that router I have been talking about and tried to et it up today. 3 minutes the blurb promised. Well, needlless to say It still isn't setup. It appears to be a fault in the Router.
However, sinc ethen I have been unable to connect my PC, running W98se, to the internet. I have checked the cable by connecting through my laptop, no probs, but nothing I have tried will connect the PC.
Does anyone have any Ideas?
I have tried pinging the modem but it isn't seen.
$#@%$#^$%%^ computers.
Cheers,
Rob

286029 2004-10-29 09:59:00 I take it you have installed the software and connected the cable.

Do the instructions tell you to make sure TCP/IP is also installed.

Do the instructions give you an address to set it up in a browser?

286030 2004-10-29 10:02:00 thanks for your reply Rob.
No I have kicked the router in to touch for now and am connecting to the net by the ethernet cable. The modem couldn't establish a connection at all.

286032 2004-10-29 10:07:00 Are you having problems with an dial up modem?

Or are you connecting to a network that is connected to the internet?

I ask as you mentioned you are using an ethernet cable.

286034 2004-10-29 10:09:00 Are you using static ips?

I had to get my two pcs to get obtains ip adresses automatically (tcp/ip settings) as the router's DHCP was on by default - I couldn't ping it on its default address or connect for setup until this was done...

286036 2004-10-29 10:17:00 I dont know much if any about Telstra cable setup, all I can say is make sure you are using the correct cable, as there are two types: crossover and patch or straight through. Rob99 (151)
286037 2004-10-29 10:17:00 As I said before the problem I am having now is with the settin gs in the computer. I have disconnected the router because it appears to be faulty.
I am having problems with the settings in the PC. Which shouldn't have changed. However as I cannot ping the cable modem, it would appear that they have changed.
