286368 2004-10-30 19:46:00 Hi just got a new laptop there is a password in the dialup connection which can log on to the internet and e-mail which was already on the laptop. In setting up the connection to my ISP i put my own password in and can also connect with it. I cannot remove the one that was already on it and i don't like that. laptop is running XP home / explorer / outlook office oldkid (6337)
286369 2004-10-30 19:54:00 Hi Oldkid,

Welcome to PressF1.

Im assuming that you fire up Outlook Express / Internet Explorer and the box automatically pops up, and from there you modify it?

Try going through My Computer --> Dial-Up Networking.
Modify your Dial-Up connections settings from there, as the changes should be applied system-wide :-)

Why cant you remove the one that was already on it??

Cheers

286371 2004-10-30 20:25:00 Try...

Start / Settings / Network Connections. There you should see the old Internet connection? If so, just delete it.

286372 2004-10-30 20:37:00 will the internet connect with this "16 letter password", because windows xp has a funny habit of tryng to disguise how long your password actually is by putting 16 stars into the password box for internet connections, your original password is still there, but it stops people using your computer knowing how long your password is lagbort (5041)
286373 2004-10-30 21:29:00 Ummm , it is an XP security thing.

When you put in your password, no matter how many characters it contains, XP just puts up the 16 dots whenever it shows it.

It is so no-one can tell how long your password is.

286374 2004-10-30 21:30:00 I agree with lagbort, it is probably your own password just been disguised by XP. I had a similar issue when i got mine new laptop. theotherone (1421)
286375 2004-10-30 23:44:00 Thank you that sounds most logical reason
I was worried that some one esle could use this password as a back door or something like that
Thanks again ALL
