286829 2004-11-03 01:08:00 I played with some numbers last night and decided that CPU cooling is a subject which probably needs some proper design . :D

Temp-rise (°C) = (273+inputair temp) (°C) x Watts of dissipation/(168x airflow (cubic ft/min) (This is from a book on transmitter design . Since multi kW output valves cost many thousands, the cooling design is conservative ;-)) .

Plugging in 35W, 15 cfm, and 20°C input gives about 4°C rise in temp . :O People seem to think that 50-60 ° (so 30-40° rise) is OK .

I'm not sure what these modern CPUs pull; I remember the Alpha was 35W, and 15 cfm for 50mm fans in the Jaycar catalogue .

So there's some "not very good" heat exchanging going on .

Where as a Athlon FX55 come in at around 104W
